Birth Doula Service
It is very important to me that we meet at least once before choosing me as your Doula. This consultation is free of charge and will give us the opportunity to meet face-to-face and get a feel for how this Doula-Client relationship will be. At this consultation you will have the opportunity to ask me any questions you may have, as well as view my Birth Doula Agreement and take a copy home to review and think.
2 Prenatal Visits
I prefer to have two prenatal visits; the first around 30 weeks and again around 35 weeks. These meetings give us a chance to go over any complications or fears you may have, and to discuss in detail your preferences for birth. During this time I am also happy to help you create your Birth Plan and Newborn Care Plan. If you are past 30 or 35 weeks, I will still happily consider supporting you and we will make do with the time we have.
Phone and Email Support
I am available for phone and email support throughout your pregnancy. I encourage clients to send me updates or contact with me with questions, especially when nearing the end of pregnancy.
I consider my on-call period to be from 37 weeks to 42 weeks. During the on-call period, I am commiting myself to be within 90kms of your birth place at all times.
I am willing to begin supporting labor at home or join you at the hospital, this decision will be yours. Throughout your labor I will provide you with physical and emotional support in whichever ways are most effective to you and/or your spouse. After the baby has been born I will remain with you for 1.5 - 2 hours, until you are comfortable and ready for peaceful bonding time.
In the early hours, days and weeks I would be happy to assist breastfeeding if needed. I am trained in Basic Breastfeeding and will do my best to help you and your baby get a good start to breastfeeding.
Postpartum follow-up visits
My services include two postpartum follow-ups; the first within 48 hours (hospital or home) and the second nearing 2 weeks postpartum. During these visits I can provide breastfeeding support, baby care tips, referrals to community resources, and we will have a chance to discuss the birth experience.
As a DONA Doula Candidate
Please note that as a Doula in training I am required to take notes on all births I attend and will submit these to DONA International. With this I am required to also include a short review on my services from yourself that DONA provides me with. It is a one page check box form and is super quick and easy!
As I gain more experience as a Doula my price will of course rise to the average for our area. For now, my pricing will be as follows:
May 2020 - January 2021
Please note that I am willing to offer my services on a sliding scale for those who may not be able to afford a Doula otherwise. If you would like the chance to be one of those please let me know upon contact!
Attention to Aboriginal families, I have been approved to accept the BCAAFC Doula Grant. Meaning that there is no charge to the family!
