Birth Doula Service
Free Consultation
It is very important to me that we meet at least once before choosing me as your Doula. This consultation is free of charge and will give us the opportunity to meet face-to-face and get a feel for how this Doula-Client relationship will be. At this consultation you will have the opportunity to ask me any questions you may have, as well as view my Birth Doula Agreement and take a copy home to review and think.
2-3 Prenatal Visits
I prefer to have two to three prenatal visits. These visits give us a chance to go over any complications or fears you may have so we can work through those, and to discuss in detail your preferences for birth. During this time I am also happy to help you create your Birth Plan and Newborn Care Plan. If you are past 30 or 35 weeks, I will still happily consider supporting you and we will make do with the time we have.
Phone and Email Support
I am available for phone and email support throughout your pregnancy. I encourage clients to send me updates or contact with me with questions, especially when nearing the end of pregnancy.
On-Call Period
I consider my on-call period to be from 38 weeks to 41 weeks. During the on-call period, I am commiting myself to be within 90kms of your birth place at all times.
During labor
I am willing to begin supporting labor at home or join you at the hospital, this decision will be yours. Throughout your labor I will provide you with physical and emotional support in whichever ways are most effective to you and/or your spouse. I do not place a limit of how many hours I will provide support for, but please know that if the labor goes on for many hours I may excuse myself to rest or refresh. After the baby has been born I will remain with you for 1 - 2 hours, until you are comfortable and ready for peaceful bonding time.
Breastfeeding Support
In the early hours, days and weeks I am happy to assist with breastfeeding if needed. I am trained in Basic Breastfeeding and will do my best to help you and your baby get a good start to breastfeeding. If struggles are beyond my ability to help I can provide resources for you to easily find the appropriate level of help.
Postpartum follow-up visits
My services include two postpartum follow-ups; the first within 48 hours (hospital or home) and the second nearing 2 weeks postpartum. During these visits I can provide breastfeeding support, baby care tips, referrals to community resources, and we will have a chance to discuss the birth experience.
